Cú means hound, and Chonnacht is a form of Connacht. This name was used by several Maguire chiefs in Fermanagh. One Cú Chonnacht Mág Uidhir, who died in 1589, supported poets, and a collection of bardic poems was written in his praise. So there is a poetry connection as well as the strong meaning.
