Neachtan has a story connected with the River Boyne. In Irish mythology, he guards a well of wisdom that only he and his cup-bearers are allowed to approach. His wife Bóinn goes to the well, and the water rushes out after her, forming the River Boyne. The surname Naughton, Ó Neachtain, also comes from this old name.
